The Curtain Closes on ‘Sex and the City’

The creator of the cult television series Sex and the City once said, when asked about the show’s iconic six-season run, “Everyone should know when to leave the party.” As a loyal viewer, I was heartbroken at the thought of saying goodbye to Charlotte, Miranda, Samantha, and Carrie. But in the world of entertainment, goodbyes aren’t always final.

The franchise was revived in 2008 with Sex and the City: The Movie, followed by a sequel, Sex and the City 2. Both films allowed the fabulous four to tackle serious issues with the signature wit, glamour, and outrageous fun that defined the original series.

A prequel, The Carrie Diaries, ran for two seasons, giving fans a glimpse into Carrie Bradshaw’s teenage years. These projects kept the SATC universe alive and thriving.

Then came And Just Like That, a modern revival that found the women navigating life, love, and loss in their fifties. It had all the DNA of the original series—fabulous fashion, heartbreak, humour, and moments of raw tragedy—though it did spark controversy and notably lacked fan-favourite Samantha. Still, it was a true revival at heart, a 360-degree journey for these beloved characters.

That’s why the recent announcement that the series will end after three seasons, with its finale set for 14 August 2025, caught fans like me off guard.

The end of the SATC universe is bittersweet. Yes, the credits will roll one last time, but the legacy lives on—in the unforgettable outfits, the infectious laughter, the heartbreaks, and the bad relationships we couldn’t look away from.

Because in the end, Sex and the City was never just about love and labels. It was about friendship, resilience, and living boldly—even when the party’s over.
