Morocco Crowned U-20 World Cup Champions – A First for the Arab World

Massive congratulations to Coach Mohanned Ouahbi and his technical team. From day one, Ouahbi built a fearless, disciplined, and united pack of lions who believed in his vision. The young Atlas Cubs suffered only a single loss – against Mexico U-20 – and drew with France U-20 before triumphing on penalties to reach the final.

On Sunday, Morocco made history, cornering Argentina with a commanding 2–0 victory to lift the FIFA U-20 World Cup title. From Santiago to Rabat, from Casablanca to Marrakech, an entire nation erupted in celebration as the Atlas Lion Cubs roared their way into the record books – becoming the first Arab nation to win the tournament.

Whatever Fouzi Lekjaa is doing to sustain Moroccan football’s rise deserves deep study and, perhaps, replication across the continent. It cannot simply be luck or magic that Morocco’s national teams – men, women, youth, and even its clubs – have collectively lifted over 30 trophies in recent years.

When Lekjaa assumed presidency of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) in 2014, the country sat at 76th in the FIFA rankings. Fast forward to today, and Morocco stands proudly among the elite – a global powerhouse shaped by visionary leadership and the unwavering support of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, whose investment in youth and sport has redefined Moroccan football.

From the senior men’s World Cup semifinalists to CAF club dominance and now the U-20 world champions in Chile, Morocco continues to inspire a continent. With modern infrastructure, elite academies, and professional management, the “Moroccan Model” has become a benchmark for African success.

Two young stars shone brightest on the world stage – Othmane Maamma and Yassir Zabiri – proving that Africa’s youth can conquer the world with proper support and guidance. Maamma was deservedly named Best Player of the Tournament, a true leader and inspiration on the field. Zabiri claimed the Silver Ball Award, after a dazzling tournament filled with goals, flair, and unforgettable moments.

Hats off to Coach Ouahbi and his entire bench – their names will forever be etched in history. His calm leadership, tactical clarity, and unwavering belief in youth have delivered Africa’s second U-20 World Cup title.

Morocco’s triumph is not just a win for one nation – it’s a message to the continent: invest in vision, and Africa will rise.
