The Khiwa’s Media Annual Tournament is back for its sixth electrifying edition, bringing with it a weekend celebration of sport, community, and social impact. Taking place from 9–10 August 2025 in Nomcamba, a small village near Ngqeleni in the Eastern Cape, the event marks a full-circle moment for its founder, Bulelani Mancotywa—who was born and raised in this very village.
A self-taught photographer and the visionary behind Khiwa Media, Mancotywa has steadily become a household name across the province. But this tournament isn’t just a highlight on the sporting calendar—it’s a symbol of hope, a driver of community upliftment, and a space for unearthing raw rural talent.
More Than a Game
What sets the Khiwa Media Annual Tournament apart is its deep-rooted social mission. Through the Khiwa Media Foundation, Mancotywa has pioneered community-focused initiatives—distributing school uniforms, shoes, clothing, and sanitary towels to children and families who need them most.
“How can a child learn on an empty stomach?”
“How can a girl child focus when she lacks access to sanitary towels?”
These questions have become the beating heart of the foundation’s work—fighting to dismantle everyday barriers that hinder educational progress and personal dignity.
From Poverty to Purpose
Mancotywa’s own experience growing up in poverty didn’t harden him—it lit a fire in him to become the change he wanted to see.
“Your background does not define your future,” he says. “With perseverance, hope, and hard work, even the most difficult circumstances can lead to greatness.”
His journey is a living message to South Africa’s youth: you are not limited by your circumstances.
Since its launch five years ago, the tournament has seen over R2 million invested in rural sports development, education, and community upliftment. It’s not just about the game—it’s about reducing crime through engagement, boosting local economies, and creating sustainable opportunities in forgotten corners of the country.
A Growing Legacy
Each year, the tournament draws a larger crowd, with more football and netball teams eager to take part. Youth in the region now see sports as more than recreation—it’s a pathway to growth, recognition, and possibly, a career.
With Khiwa Media’s media coverage, the event has gained attention from well-known personalities across South Africa. There’s talk among community members that the tournament weekend deserves to be declared a public holiday—a reflection of the pride and excitement it sparks every year.
What to Expect This Year
The 2025 edition is shaping up to be the biggest yet.
“It’s always a blend of fresh talent and seasoned experience—from footballers and netball players to entertainers and influencers,” says Mancotywa. “It’s a networking opportunity. A vibe. A movement. The kind of experience Gen Z would call pure FOMO.”
From fierce matches to unforgettable performances and the spirit of ubuntu alive in every corner of Nomcamba, this weekend promises energy, excitement, and inspiration.
One Thing Is Certain:
All roads lead to Nomcamba this weekend. And if you’re not there—you’ll definitely hear about it.
