Simphiwe Dludlu, renowned for her unmatched football knowledge, credibility, and on-screen charisma, has officially announced her departure from the SABC. Her trailblazing tenure, which began in 2022, concluded with her final broadcast on Soccer Zone, aired on Monday, 28 July 2025. Dludlu leaves behind a legacy marked by professional excellence and her consistent elevation of women in sport, both on and off screen.

A celebrated South African football player, coach, and broadcaster, Dludlu was born on 21 September 1987 in Alexandra, South Africa. Her passion for football propelled her to become one of the most influential figures in the country’s sporting landscape.
Dludlu’s playing career took off at Phomolong Ladies before she moved on to Rand Afrikaans University and later the University of Pretoria. She made her debut for the South African senior national team, Banyana Banyana, in 2006 against Mozambique. As a defender, she earned 63 caps and scored one goal, captaining the team from 2009 to 2010. Among her many achievements were earning her 50th cap in a friendly match against Ghana in May 2014, being named to the squad preparing for the 2014 Africa Women Cup of Nations in Namibia, and her official retirement from international football in March 2014 to pursue a coaching career.
After obtaining her Sports Science degree from the University of Pretoria in 2012, Dludlu began coaching the university’s women’s football team. She earned her UEFA B License coaching certificate in May 2013. As a coach, she led the University of Pretoria to the finals of the USSA Football National Club Championships in her first two years and later mentored the Tshwane University of Technology’s high-performance women’s team. Her greatest coaching milestone came when she guided South Africa’s U-17 women’s national team to their second-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualification in 2018 and secured a silver medal at the 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championship.
During her time at SABC Sport, Dludlu served as a lead analyst and commentator, contributing to high-profile tournaments including the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, AFCON 2024, CAF Women’s Champions League, Bafana Bafana matches, the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, AFCON 2025 qualifiers, and the COSAFA Women’s Championship. On weekends, she provided insightful PSL match analysis for SABC Sport. Her expertise and authenticity brought a refreshing perspective to football coverage, particularly through her efforts to highlight and normalize the presence of women as authoritative voices in football, across both men’s and women’s games.
