Yonda Thomas set to make international debut in Netflix’s “One Piece”

The South African entertainment industry is buzzing with talent from musicians to renowned actors and it seems like the rest of the world wants to have a piece of the pie when it comes to our talented roster of performers.

The latest talent to join the growing list of entertainment exports is “Yoh Bestie” actor Yonda Thomas who has landed a role in the second season of Netflix’s  “One Piece” which is a live-action remake of a Japanese Manga series of the same name.

Yonda will be taking on the role of Igaram, who is the bodyguard of Princess Nefertari. The actor will be joining the existing cast alongside other new additions such as Rigo Sanchez and James Hiroyuki.  The recently released trailer for the new season featured the new characters Igaram, Dragon and Ipponmatsu.

Hollywood has attracted more than a handful of South African actors and musicians such as Thuso MbeduTrevor NoahTyla and Ama Qamata amongst others who are flying the South African flag high., 

This is not the first time that Yonda has starred in a Netflix production. The actor’s Netflix resume is quite long with roles in productions such as “Happiness Ever After”, “Seriously Single” and “Mrs Right Guy”. These have been rom-com films where he has been known to play the leading man.

He has also starred in a number of television shows such as “How to Ruin Christmas”“Red Ink”  which are available to stream on Netflix and Showmax. The roles that put him in the spotlight were those in SABC productions such as“Muvhango” and his character of Majola in “Isidingo”.

The second season of “One Piece” will premiere on 2 April 2026 on Netflix.
