Thebe Magugu Expands His Creative Universe with Mount Nelson Suite and Magugu House

The designer who seemingly always has his pulse on the beat of everything fabulous and stylish locally and internationally has announced that Belmond Mount Nelson will officially launch the Thebe Magugu Suite in December 2026 to mark the tenth anniversary of the brand.

The suite will form part of Belmond Mount Nelson’s signature suites and villas. The designer also announced that the launch will also include the unveiling of Magugu House which will be strategically placed next to the suite.

Magugu House will be a combination of atelier for the brand and a gallery which will provide the space for local artists to present their work. The Cape Town Magugu House will be the second one following the opening of the first one in May 2024 in Johannesburg.

The afro-modernist suite encompasses two floors in a bright splash of green and harvest shades. The suite also features a lounge and dining area which are greeted by a well-designed entrance. These two features are ideal for entertaining.

There are also other standard amenities such as a master bedroom which contains an en-suite bathroom. These all contain a fabulous view of the mountain. The aesthetic of the interior was a mixture of the English Heritage of Mount Nelson and elements of the Thebe Magugu brand. This was a result of the collaboration between the designer and StudioLandt.

The designer released a statement which expressed gratitude to Mount Nelson, Belmond Hotel and LVMH for their support.

“When I founded my brand in 2016, it was with a vision to create an Afro-encyclopaedic archive — celebrating key histories, peoples, and cultures at risk of being forgotten. Now, that spirit lives not just in cloth, but in space.

Fashion lives on the body, while interiors live around it — yet both demand the same sensitivity to storytelling. This project has shown me how cultural memory can be woven just as powerfully into walls and furniture as into garments”
