I was asked to take part in a local “Amazing Race”- type competition from Johannesburg to Cape Town with 3 other Bloggers/Influencers. We were each paired with a Standard Bank winner from their June social media competition, in which followers were asked “What’s Your Next?”

Dubbed “Discover Your Next”, the one-day race started at Standard Bank’s head office in Rosebank and finished at the Cape Town Lodge Hotel. Before the race, we were handed our own World Citizen Credit Cards to use for the race.

The 4 Teams;

Team Africa – Kiki Marli and Nhlanhla

Team Citizen – Lerato Bambo and Lehlogonolo

Team Credit – Michael Cost and Rotondwa

Team World – Yoliswa Mqoco and Siya

Each team had a Cameraman that followed them around capturing every moment and recording everything.

We were mic’d up from the beginning of the race till the end. Cameras on our faces all the time making people assume we were shooting a reality show. It was action packed. That’s Nhlanhla and I in the Gautrain on our way to OR Tambo International.

We landed at Cape Town International Airport and our first task was to find our rented cars by Hertz car rental parking lot. We were given the registration numbers and the car models. Imagine running in a parking lot full of cars just to find that one car? Stress!

We eventually found our car, and inside was our second clue – to find a Standard Bank What’s Your Next billboard at a street that starts with the letter ‘L’. You’d think it’s Long Road right? It was actually Loop Road. Sigh!! We found it and at this point my teammate and I are sitting at the #2 spot.

Third clue was to head to Table Mountain and look for Actress and Businesswoman, Salamina Mosese to give us our final clue. Touch down Table Mountain, we used our World Citizen Credit Cards to purchase the tickets. Earlier on we had used the card to purchase airtime and some snacks for the road.

Soon after we stepped out of the Cableway on to the mountain, we lost our cameraman. Please don’t ask me how that happened because I didn’t even notice he was missing until we got to Salamina and she asked us where our cameraman was. Hahahaha! Well, she then said the magic words ‘Welcome, you are Team #2’ and she gave us our final clue which was to find the Cape Town Lodge Hotel.

Off we ran, thank goodness we found our cameraman waiting along the way but unfortunately we missed the Cableway, leaving us with no choice but to wait for the next one. Because of that delay, Team Citizen caught up with us. From that moment we were head to head with Team Citizen but then lost each other somehow. We finally got to the hotel only to find out we were now at number 3.  Team Citizen had secured the 2^nd spot. Number 1 was Team Credit. Number 4 was Team World.
