Fearless Orbit College Leave Orlando Stadium With Heads Held High

Newly promoted “Bafana Ba Mswenko” impress despite narrow 1-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates

Orbit College FC, affectionately known in the streets of South African football as Bafana Ba Mswenko, arrived at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night as underdogs – but left with respect earned. Facing Soweto giants Orlando Pirates at Esgodini sika Maminzela, the North West side showed zero fear and took the game straight to the Buccaneers from the first whistle.

Despite being newly promoted, Orbit displayed confidence and character, unsettling Pirates with their fearless approach. Many fans had expected to see Monnapule Saleng, Thuso Moleleki, and Yanga Madiba face their parent club, but the trio were ruled ineligible under loan agreements. Saleng, a fan favourite and five-time trophy winner with Pirates under coach Riveiro, was spotted in the stands smiling, even though supporters would have loved to see him back on the field.

Orbit’s first-half performance had many believing they were the established PSL side. Coach Pogiso Makhoye’s troops matched Pirates with 50% possession, created clear chances, and played attractive football against one of the most possession-heavy teams in the league.

The game ultimately swung in the second half when Pirates made a triple substitution, introducing Mbatha, Mbule, and Ndaba. From there, the Buccaneers began to dominate until Seema’s strike from outside the box sealed a 1-0 victory.

Despite the narrow defeat, Orbit can take far more positives than negatives. Competing against a big brand like Pirates – without some key players and with injuries in the squad – highlighted their potential to survive and even thrive in their debut Betway Premiership season. If they maintain this fearless momentum, Bafana Ba Mswenko could be destined for bigger and better things in South African football
