It seems like former Miss SA Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala is not slowing down when it comes to building her collection of beauty pageant licenses under her company African Beauty International. The latest acquisition is Miss Universe SA which was previously owned by the Miss South Africa pageant.
The Miss Universe SA now joins Miss Supranational under Bokang’s leadership where her official title is National Director of both pageants.
This is a somewhat controversial move made by a former Miss SA winner as since Miss Universe SA is a separate entity from the Miss SA umbrella, it means that the lucky lady who is crowned at the upcoming Miss SA grand finale will not be able to compete at the Miss Universe Pageant in Thailand on 21 November.
The former Miss Universe contestant and philanthropist, who made her mark when she was the reigning Miss South Africa in 2010 by being a contestant on all the major pageants made the following statements after the announcement of her acquisition of the pageant license.
“My vision as National Director is to grow Miss Universe South Africa into a platform that not only shines on the international stage but also creates tangible impact within our communities”, she also added;
“Through African Beauty International, we aim to discover and nurture women who are passionate about impact, leadership and service- women who represent the full beauty and diversity of South Africa.”
These are definitely interesting times that we live in when it comes to the national beauty pageant scene.
The Miss South Africa grand finale will be held 25 October 2025 and Miss Universe will be held 21 November in Thailand.
