The month of August has always been known for celebrating the impact and heritage left by the incredible women of South Africa.
The 2026 Basadi in Music Awards did just that by honouring the remarkable women who have revolutionised the local music industry.
The award show was held between 7-8 August. This year’s edition was split between two events
he first night which was hosted by Luthando Shosha (LootLove), celebrated the artists and innovators who might not be in the direct limelight but contribute significantly to the entertainment industry.
Here is the list of the first night’s winners:
- Sannah Thwala (artist manager)
- Ivie Ani (entertainment journalist)
- Boipelo Mooketsi (radio presenter)
- Letty Nyanthela Chili (hairstylist)
- Smangele Sindi
- Zano Dlamini (make-up artist)
- Candice Modiselle (TV presenter)
- Khanyisile Mdletshe (Stylist)
- Minnie Dlamini (TV producer)
- Khanyi Mors (Podcast Presenter)
The main event was hosted by the electrifying combination of Anele Zondo, Nomuzi Mabena (Moozlie), Unathi Nkayi and Lerato Kganyago.
They are all previous hosts of the prestigious awards show.
The notable winners of the main ceremony were:
- Buhlebendalo Mda – Traditional Artist of the year
- Nonny Muji – Songwriter of the year
- Nothando Hlophe – Song of the year (Empini)
- Zee Nxumalo – Artist of the year
- Mawhoo – Amapiano artist of the year & Highest Airplay Award.
- Thabsie – Best styled artist of the year
imphiwe Dana & Thandiswa Mazwai were awarded with the Gallo Renaissance Award which coincides with the 100 years of Gallo Music.
Buhlebendalo expressed her sentiments of feeling seen after winning the award. She went on to say whilst accepting the award:
“Thank you for seeing me outside of being just a girl from The Soil. I feel seen and that means a lot to me as a solo artist”.
The entertainment industry would definitely not be the same without such spectacular women and we should continue celebrating them.
