Terry Pheto Nominated Alongside Oprah, Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan and Loretta Devine!

If there is one South African woman that is owning the international scene at the moment, it’s Terry Pheto. She continues to represent the African continent with pride and joy. This time she has been nominated at the Black Reel Awards in the United States.

Terry Pheto plays Winnie Mandela in the ‘American’ miniseries MADIBA, which is based on two Nelson Mandela autobiographies. The series also goes into detailing the early years of Nelson Mandela’s journey, and reveals behind-the-scenes strategizing and bold tactics that he and his collaborators used to bring attention to their movement, both domestically and internationally. The miniseries also pays homage to many lesser known men and women who made sacrifices toward South Africa’s quest for freedom.

Terry acted alongside US legend Laurence Fishburne who plays the role of Madiba (Nelson Mandela).

.

Other actors include Orlando Jones who plays Oliver Tambo and David Harewood stars as Walter Sisulu, who happened to be two of Mandela’s closest friends.

As if working with such big names in MADIBA wasn’t enough, Terry Pheto has scored her first ever nomination at the Black Reel Awards for her Winnie Mandela role.

She has been nominated in the Outstanding Actress in a TV Movie/Limited Series category alongside more big names in the acting industry in the USA.

Sanaa Lathan who is on her 7th nomination

Here is everybody’s mama. The one and only Loretta Devine sitting on her 3rd nomination

Mama Oprah Winfrey now has 5 Black Reel Nominations

And of course there is Nia Long riding on her 6th nomination.

We managed to get hold of Terry Pheto, and this is what she had to say; “I feel so humbled and validated. It’s a great honour to be recognized amongst your idols and on a global scale. I don’t take this moment for granted. I’m truly grateful and this nomination feels like a win already.”

With such big names, and such great talent, one can only be proud of this African QUEEN!! Congrats to you Terry, we will be routing for you.

The winners of the Black Reel Awards will be announced on the 3rd August 2017 in the USA. Let’s hope our girl takes it and make history. Imagine? She plays a great South African, in a miniseries about an African icon – if she, let’s rephrase that and say WHEN she wins that Award she will break the record and it will make African stories more powerful and more worth telling. *fingers crossed*
