What comes to mind when you think of a Valentine’s Day proposal? Picturesque romantic cities, boat rides through canals, love-lock bridges? If you are planning a romantic getaway to pop the question to the love of your life, the romance doesn’t have to wait until you reach your destination. It can start as soon as you leave your home.
According to Dr AndrĂ© Schulz, General Manager for Lufthansa Group, Southern Africa, ”Over the years, aeroplane proposals have become increasingly popular. There’s something romantic about soaring above the clouds when you make this kind of commitment. The best advice is to plan ahead to ensure the best result. Who can forget the 2016 proposal on-board an Austrian Airlines flight from Austria to Greece that not only included the proposal, accompanied by a serenading trio,  but with the help of the excellent crew, the actual wedding ceremony complete with wedding guests, a dress, a wedding cake supplied by the airline and all the necessities for a memorable experience.”
This Valentine’s Day, if you have planned a romantic trip or are thinking of popping the question at 35 000 feet, here are some tips on how to pull off the ultimate romantic gesture and make it an unforgettable trip.
Upgrade Your Trip
What better way to celebrate than to do so in style in Business Class on any of the Lufthansa Group’s airlines (Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines, Austrian Airlines). Business Class offers perks that will make your experience that much more special and seamless. This includes priority boarding to avoid the long boarding queue, the finest inflight dining boasting a menu selection of delicious meals, fine wines and top-quality tableware. Valentine’s Day is not complete without a ‘tear jerker’ romcom and you can enjoy the latest and classic blockbusters on all the Lufthansa Group airlines’ comprehensive inflight entertainment systems. As seating is an important aspect of getting the proposal right, the business class seats that also convert into a fully flat bed, have ample leg room for you to get down on one knee to pop the question.
The Lufthansa Group airlines are currently running a Business Class flight special to the popular European cities of Zurich, Brussels, Barcelona or Rome, starting from as little as R22Â 990 per person (inclusive of taxes)*.
An Alternative Proposal
If you would like to propose at a romantic destination, you can enjoy a winter wonderland by escaping to St Moritz. The Swiss mountain resort offers picturesque views of snow topped mountains and roaring fireplaces. It is as perfect as a picture postcard and one of the most romantic Swiss cities to propose in. The Lufthansa Group are offering direct flights to Zurich starting from as little as R6 390 per person (Inclusive of taxes*) and then it’s a scenic train ride from the airport to get to the alpine town.
Secure Your Love
Love-lock bridges are a must for any couple passing by them. Whether you are visiting the original love lock bridge, the Pont des Arts in Paris, or the Hohenzollern bridge in the German city of Cologne where lovers write their names and messages on padlocks before securing the locks to the bridge and throwing the keys into the Rhine River. This symbolic act of affection is a way for couples to leave a tangible representation of their love in a city they have made great memories in.
In all this, remember that even the best laid strategy does not always go according to plan so leave room for some flexibility. If you have a plan, a ring, a location and very high hopes of getting a “YES!” leave the rest up to cupid.
NB: The sales period for both Business and Economy Class runs between 10 – 20 February, for travel between 1 March -20 November 2020, with departures from Cape Town and Johannesburg. Available on Lufthansa.com, austrian.com and swiss.com
