The Bank of Botswana has marked its 50th Jubilee with the launch of a striking new P50 banknote celebrating Botswana’s historic track triumphs.
The limited-edition note features an engraving of 2024 Paris Olympic 200-metre champion Letsile Tebogo, alongside members of the men’s 4x400m relay team, symbolising national pride and athletic excellence.

Governor Cornelius Dekop unveiled the commemorative currency at the Jubilee celebrations in Gaborone, noting that the design “captures a golden era for Botswana sport and underscores the Bank’s commitment to preserving milestones of national achievement.”
The P50 note will enter circulation immediately through commercial banks and selected ATMs, while remaining legal tender alongside existing P50 notes. Collectors can obtain uncirculated versions directly from the Bank of Botswana from Monday, 15 September, on a first-come, first-served basis.
