Tickets for the much-anticipated MTN8 semifinal second leg between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have officially sold out. The clash is set for Saturday at 3 PM at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

The first leg at Orlando Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw, meaning a winner must emerge this time to determine who advances to the final, where they will meet either Sekhukhune United or Stellenbosch FC.

A rivalry with El Clásico feel

Whenever these two giants meet, fireworks are guaranteed. The rivalry is often compared to an “El Clásico” for its intensity, goals, and flair-filled football.

In the first leg, Bafana Ba Style struck first through Tebogo Mokoena’s header, but the Buccaneers kept the drama alive with a late equaliser from Kamogelo Sebelebele, ensuring the tie remains delicately poised.

Pressure on the Buccaneers

Despite the level scoreline, Pirates enter the second leg under pressure. Sundowns carry the advantage, having scored away in Orlando, which could tilt things in their favour if the clash ends in another draw.

However, football is never predictable. As history has shown, anything can happen when these two powerhouses collide—and form often goes out the window on days like these.

Tight schedule, no excuses

Before turning their full focus to the semifinal, both teams face midweek assignments:

  • Sundowns travel to Polokwane to face Magesi at Seshego Stadium.
  • Pirates host Stellenbosch FC at Orlando Stadium.

With less than three days to prepare for Saturday’s clash, squad depth will be tested—though both clubs are known for their strong benches and tactical flexibility.

Final spot on the line

The winner will await the outcome of the other semifinal later on Saturday. Stellenbosch head into their second-leg clash against Sekhukhune United with a 2-0 advantage, courtesy of goals from Enyinnaya Godswill and Devon Titus, both assisted by Lesiba Nku.

With everything still to play for, all eyes will be on Atteridgeville this weekend—a sold-out venue, two heavyweights, and a place in the MTN8 final on the line.
