Produced by Ebony Life TV CEO, Mo Abudu and Directed by Biyi Bandele. The film FIFTY was released in 2015 and it clocked over N400 million. Now a sequel (TV Series) is coming out and Stevel Marc, is in it.
If you didn’t watch the Film, I’d suggest you start hunting for it now before the Series starts, otherwise you are going to be lost.
About The Film: ‘FIFTY captures a few pivotal, days in the lives of four Nigeria women at the pinnacle of their careers. Meet Tola, Elizabeth, Maria and Kate four friends forced at midlife to take inventory of their personal lives, while juggling careers and family against the sprawling backdrops of the upper middle-class neighbourhoods of Ikoyi and Victoria Island in Lagos. They live and work in the resurgent, ever-bustling, 24-hour megacity of Lagos, the largest city of Africa’s biggest and most vibrant economy. Tola is a reality TV star whose marriage to lawyer Kunle never stood a chance thanks to an invidious family secret. Elizabeth is a celebrated obstetrician whose penchant for younger men has estranged her from her daughter. Forty-nine year-old Maria has an affair with a married man that results in an unexpected pregnancy and Kate’s battle with a life-threatening illness has plunged her into religious obsession. In this tender but unflinching exploration of love and lust, power and rivalry, life and loss in twenty-first century Africa’s most populous city, and to the pulsating beat of the compelling and entrancing grooves of African Music, we see the four lead characters muster courage, put on their six-inch heels, working hard and partying too, and strut confidently to tackle life’s curveballs head-on. Tola, Elizabeth, Maria and Kate rise triumphantly to the challenges of contemporary life faced by women everywhere and remain unbowed.’ << Interesting right? I told you, you need to get on hands on it. 🙂
Well, they have decided to do a TV Series based on the 2015 movie. The TV Series is written by Ben Johnson and directed by the award winning film guru, Akin Omotoso. It stars Omoni Oboli, Dakore Akande, Uzor Osimkpa, Stevel Marc, Chris Attoh, Wale Ojo, Hakeem Kae-Kazim,Timini Egbuson and Palesa Setlhare.
Last night when we saw International Model and Actor Stevel Marc at the movie premiere of Last Broken Darkness, we had to pull him to the side for a quick chat. Stevel happens to be a major part of the FIFTY TV series, and that’s making some of us even more excited about it.
Kiki: So a couple of days ago, Ebonylife TV shared a picture of the cast members and BOOM, there you are. Please tell us about your character. Who do you play?
Stevel: My character’s name is Richard. He’s a lover, Radio Deejay, Club Owner, Music Writer and Producer.
Kiki: Oh WOW!, that’s a lot.
Stevel: He is everything, hahahaha you guys are gonna love him. Well, I hope.
Kiki: How did you get this role?
Stevel: One of the Directors, Akin Omotoso and I have been wanting to do something together for a while. He told me about the role and asked if I was interested. I auditioned and screen tested with my onscreen partner and the rest was history.
Kiki: Without giving away the story. What do you love the most about Richard?
Stevel: I love the fact that he’s an easy going guy that’s often in Tees and Jeans. He’s very talented and ambitious. He has a sensitive side but he is also tough when he needs to be.
Kiki: Mmmmmh, anything you didn’t like about him?
Stevel: To be honest, I didn’t hate anything about him. He was a fun and realistic character to play.
Kiki: Would you say Stevel and Richard are one person? What we are going to see through Richard, will that be the real Stevel?
Stevel: Lol. Good question. Hummm……I’d say in some way.
Kiki: How do you feel about the show? The whole concept of this sequel?
Stevel: I’m very excited about it. The movie itself was very successful and people wanted more – hence the Series was made. Career wise, it’s a welcomed opportunity to be in a new market and also to be a part of the Ebonylife TV family.
Kiki: I know you are out to celebrate another one of your achievements. This is the Premiere of the movie Last Broken Darkness which currently has a 8.2 rating and you are part of the cast too. What other projects have you been busy with?
Stevel: Well, Last Broken Darkness premieres tonight and it will be showing here at Killarney CINECENTRE. I have a TV Series called Black Sails, films Hell Trip and Insight which I am done filming. Then I have Body Defenders that I am currently shooting for 2018, and obviously FIFTY that will air later in the year.
Thanks for the chat Stevel. I am sure I am not the only one that’s looking forward to this series.
