- Naby Keita
RB Leipzig’s commanding defensive midfielder was snapped-up by Liverpool in the last transfer window, but the African Footballer of the Year nominee won’t actually join the reds until next season.
When the Guinean does make his way to Anfield, he’ll be earning between $133,000 – $266,000 a week. That’s a maximum intake of R3.6 million every seven days.
- Asamoah Gyan
Less than 12 months ago, he was raking in $301,000 a week – more than R4 million. He would have been second in the list of highest paid African footballers. Now, Gyan has always been a money-chaser, but 2017 was the year that he could no longer justify his gargantuan wages. A public falling out with his former club Shanghai Shenhua saw him farmed out on loan to Dubai’s Al-Ahli, and then sent packing to Turkish mid-table dwellers Kayserispor. He now makes a yearly salary of $669,000, at $12,000-a-week.
Any surprises on the above list? West Africa is clearly owning it hands down. Not even one player from Southern Africa in the Top 20? Wow!

@OssifyMedia
No South African? This is disappointing. Mzansi players are not serious with their craft.
They not serious at all @Jojo. I pray Gigi and Tokelo overcome whatever challenge they are facing. #Ayalimaza
Thank you for this article Kiks. We love variety.
I am here for #1. That Yaya guy Neh? $330 000 a week? A WEEK? Even $12K a week ya Gyan is a lot. No wonder their women have no careers. Who needs one? That money is your career. TJO
There was a time in my life I dreamed of being a WAG, but after seeing what they go through with these players I am good with my IT guy.
What happened to Andre Ayew? He used to be edible, now he out here with a Nigerian head.
That Sadio guy from Senegal is someone you only date for his money. Aowa
@Tazmania you won’t see the gates of heaven waitse,im dead from the last part of ur comment.I feel like southern African players/musicians (especially) are not as “hungry” as the guys from east and west africa. Those guys hustle. It’s not like they are more talented/gifted than our guys in southern Africa. i think they just have more drive. but yeah they are rolling in money shem
Lol, I’m just calling how I see it.
