This past Sunday, Victoria Yards in Johannesburg was packed for The Flying Fish Flavour Odyssey experience.
People went all out to #AddSomeFlavour.
Ok so firstly, let’s address the non-performing elephant in the room… The Maségo no-show.
Headliner Maségo put out the above tweet the day before his scheduled performance
Those who had tickets expressed their anger and sadness, and those who did not, rejoiced at the “unforeseen circumstance”. Maségo, if you’re reading this, please get yourself on the Afropunk line-up. It’s only fair and we’re still waiting on Solange to make it up to us; but that’s not the point.
Anyway, I get to Victoria Yards for the Flying Fish Flavour Odyssey (quite overdressed in heels I might add. Lol!) to find a bright-coloured, cool vibe with different fun and light aesthetic elements surrounding the stage and concession stands. It would’ve been the perfect setting for the brand and the event taking place, with only one key element missing – the SUN!
It started pouring down with rain for the first two hours of the event and it was overcast for the rest of the day, but everyone took it in stride and still came through to party and watch really great performances, drinking Flying Fish cocktails, eating delicious meals from Sumting Fresh and Wing Republic. I do wish they had more drink options for teetotalers, though.
As the day went on, we got to see the sky clear up and the energy lift with live performances from American rapper, J.I.D.
He performed alongside local superstars Sho Madjozi, Moonchild Sanelly, Kitchen Mess, Black Motion, Spoek Mathambo and Manthe Ribane. There were also dance performances and a fashion exhibition.
As the energy picked up and the weather cleared, the more people came swarming in, jamming to good music, good food and good vibes all around; proving that no matter the day or the weather, we really do enjoy a good groove.
Thank you to the Flying Fish team for hosting us. We did our best to #AddSomeFlavour at the #FlavourOdyssey
