Last Wednesday, NESTLE NESPRAY flew us to George in the Western Cape to learn about how Nestle Nespray forti grow milk is made. We arrived at George airport and we were met by the representatives, Toni and Bulelwa from The Riverbed. Our first stop was at Mossel Bay Farm, where we were welcomed by the owner Mr Kuyler, The C.E.O. of The Riverbed Monalisa, Senior Brand Manager for Nespray, Lerato and Sponsorship, PR and Events Manager at Nestle, Rosalie.
We had a mini briefing about how NESTLÉ NESPRAY FORTIGROW is working hand in hand with South African dairy farmers to achieve global standards in quality milk production.
Breakfast before Mini briefing
“A child’s early years” begin before birth when it comes to nutrition. Under-nutrition during pregnancy stunts foetal growth and can lead to poor brain development that result in irreversible chronic illnesses. Under-nutrition of a breastfeeding mother will likewise negatively impact a child’s development, especially in the first 6 months when breast milk is all he/she is consuming. For all soon-to-be and new mothers, it’s worth making sure you’re consuming a healthy and balanced diet full of the vital nutrients that both you and your child need: carbohydrates, protein, calcium, iron and vitamins A, C and D. Although at first glance this list seems overbearing, realistically you probably consume most of these nutrients already – it’s just about following proportions, which the eat well plate helps to illustrate.
After breakfast we took a walk around the Farm.
Many of South Africa’s children suffer from macro and micro nutrient deficiencies, which hinder their ability to grow into their full potential. With decades of expertise in children’s development, NESTLÉ NESPRAY FORTIGROW understands the needs of school-aged children. NESTLÉ NESPRAY FORTIGROW is scientifically designed with balanced nutrients to get your child’s body and mind ready for school, making it MILK and MORE _ Nespray TM.
Our second stop was Mossel Bay Factory to show us how the milk is transformed into Nespray milk powder. The Nestle Nespray factory gets 320 tones of milk delivered every day. As soon as the milk arrives, it is tested at the Laboratory where they check its freshness, balance of fats and solids etc. The milk is then pumped into the large tank where vitamins and minerals are added to provide school going kids with nutrients they need to support their brain. Then the milk is first concentrated in a machine that works under a vacuum called an EVAPORATOR. It’s powder but it’s still more than just any milk. The concentrated is then sprayed into a huge tower with hot air. Only milk powder is left to help the powder fall down to the bottom. Before the powder is packed, the scientist tests if the powder dissolves in water. Once all that is done, it’s ready to be put into NESTLE NESPRAY packets and tins.
Safe and geared up for Plant
Our flight was delayed, so we went back to the farm and had a fascinating experience watching the farmers milk the cows. This was the best moment, I enjoyed watching how they communicate, how they put the tube to suck the milk. They can also read which cow has more protein, fat, nutrient or is having diarrhea. Did I mention the Farm has a Pharmacy? yes when a cow has diarrhea or any other disease, the farmers give medication on the spot. I really learned a lot from this trip.
Thank you to NESTLE NESPRAY and The Riverbed for quite an amazing experience ☺.
IT’S MORE THAN JUST MILK.
